The Welrod is a handgun in Insurgency: Sandstorm.
The 🌐Welrod is a British integrally-suppressed bolt-action pistol chambered in 9×19mm, designed in 1942 and produced during and after World War II. Most Welrods were produced for Allied irregular forces and resistance movements as a concealable silenced weapon for assassinations or silent close combat. After the war, many Welrods remained in the inventories of guerilla armies and special forces, with some seeing use well into the late 20th century.
Insurgency: Sandstorm[]
The Welrod appears in Insurgency: Sandstorm as a handgun for the Insurgents. It costs 0 Supply Points and is available for all classes. It was added in Operation Nightfall.[1]
The Welrod's small caliber subsonic rounds, inaccurate sights, bolt-action operation, and small magazine size make it arguably one of the worst weapons in the game and an active hindrance to its user even while holstered. To make up for this however, it is also one of the cheapest, lightest, and most customizable, featuring almost every standard attachment in the game, as well as selectable ammunition to improve its effectiveness.
While behind enemy lines, and especially when sneaking up on a preoccupied enemy such as an unaware Marksman, the Welrod can prove to be very effective at killing individual targets without alerting other enemies. It is essentially a free silencer and provides a minimal visual profile, making it ideal for stealthy movements. But in the event the user's primary weapon's ammunition is depleted, additional ammunition or a suitable replacement should be scavenged as soon as possible instead of relying on the Welrod. Thankfully, the Welrod is quite suitable for killing enemies with the intent of immediately stealing their weapons, though problems should be expected if the first attempt fails. If heavy direct contact is expected or sound is not a concern, players should consider bringing the Makarov instead.
