Tracer ammunition, or simply, tracers are a type of bullet with a small pyrotechnic charge (or other luminescent substance) in their base. When the powder of the cartridge is ignited, the pyrotechnic charge burns very brightly, able to be seen by the naked eye, particularly when fired at nighttime. Shooters may use tracer ammunition to spot where the projectiles are landing and make corrections to aiming without needing to use the weapons sights. Tracer fire can also be used to signal to other shooters where to fire at during battle.

Insurgency[]

Tracer Ammo is a free ammo attachment that adds tracers ammo in intervals of standard ammo. The frequency of tracer rounds increase if a magazine is close to empty. Tracer ammo can also be used to indicate to friendly forces where you are shooting and also helps with suppression. Insurgent forces use green tracers and Security forces use red tracers.

Performance[]

Tracer ammo performs in the exact same manner as standard ammo, damage and penetration wise. The damage model used for tracer ammo is the same as the one used for standard ammo. In Insurgency, only certain weapons can equip tracer ammunition: light Machine Guns come preloaded with Tracer ammo and cannot be removed, even when equipping AP or HP, while shotguns and handguns cannot equip tracer ammunition.

Advantages[]

  • Increased suppression abilities
  • Indicates when magazine is close to empty
  • Warns friendly troops of possible enemy locations
  • Allows user to better track the trajectory of their bullets, making hipfire easier.
  • Better distinguishes friend from foe, reducing friendly fire incidents.

Disadvantages[]

  • Reveals position of shooter
  • Flares up more than traditional rounds with night vision
