Hi, I understand that you haven't been active in a while, but I'd like to ask if we can use the screenshots by DaboSwinneyAndTheBlueMeanie as the infobox images for each weapon. He's been able to take screenshots of every weapon in the game up to January.
Hi, thank you for response. Yeah, I noticed you separated pages even after there were reasons provided to why I made all those changes in my profile. I dislike the way this wiki handles weapons pages, especially the case with same platform/family or returning weapons. I like to think some people like some wikis unique or being different from other wikis and there are good intentions and reasons like upgrading page structure, creating more informative infoboxes and systems. It's still a wiki project and standards are already set up with how page structure should be and most important being simple and easy to navigate.
Creating new pages for every unique weapon in the game series is not a good way of handling this. It just creates more pages and thus not needed clicks, page-to-page count and overall harder time to navigate for weapons which are not so different and of the same platform family and most of the time feature same set of in-game stats and attachments.
So I disagree with all your proposals. MP5 should be the universal page for every MP5 variant featured in Insurgency series (though I can agree about MP5K being different enough). M16 should be the universal page for every M16 variant featured in Insurgency series (excluding M4A1 and Mk 18). Don't use this wiki's defaults as a rule - "this wiki seems to like to separate stuff" is not a rule and can be worked on upon or even changed.
With all that being said, I'm basing all my opinions on how other video game wikis (FPS ones in particular) handle situations like this and there is always room for discussion. Sometimes some wikis do need to use non-standard ways of resolving cases like this, but I didn't find anything in weapon pages to warrant separating. It's a community project and we should be able to work this out, but we also need to acknowledge how it's already done in other similarly themed wikis (there it works absolutely fine).
Alright, I agree then. We will merge the M16 pages if they are not already. Ysbert said "he M16 is a tricky one, because it would be the only two items in one game on one page... I'd say we create two pages for them, and later we see if we change it." so I guess this is the time to change it.
Like you said, the MP5K can be a separate page, especially since Insurgency Sandstorm actually might MP5K (someone found a model and animations using commands), and it would be way too cluttered to have 3 variants of an MP5 under the same Sandstorm page.
Thank you! For fast responses and understanding too! I may sound too "honest" in my messages, but I'm glad we both we're clear in our messages and reasons. I should say there's no rush in doing all this too - Insurgency is still niche series tbh and we can always take time if you think that way haha. And that MP5K in Sandstorm prediction could be true.
You can close this thread if you think this question is resolved (or maybe it can stay open is case of new suggestions).
On a more "serious" note, regarding me to edit Sandstorm content is:
Being Unreal Engine game is a problem (at least for me). Coming from mod era and how easy was Source to mod, there's no reliable way for me to dig weapon/map/etc official stats or systems, so... those infoboxes will be empty for now
Insurgency being niche doesn't help too (maybe Workshop will solve this)
Very few 2D assets to grab and present as reference or infobox picture. It probably will be mostly screenshots from the game (epic settings would be good)
It's actually surprising since Sandstorm features a competitive mode and it kinda "requires" more detailed statistics and all that
