The 🌐MP7 (German: Maschinenpistole 7) is a personal defense weapon developed by German arms manufacturer, Heckler & Koch. It uses the proprietary HK 4.6×30mm cartridge, designed for low recoil and high armor penetration.

Insurgency: Sandstorm[]

The MP7 is a personal defense weapon featured in Insurgency: Sandstorm. It is available to Security Breachers.

The MP7, chambering a unique 4.6x30mm AP round, capitalizes on bonuses to penetration and velocity that other SMGs and PDWs cannot. While most Breacher options chamber 9mm, which has a measly 400 m/s velocity, the MP7's unique rounds have almost twice the velocity. At 735 m/s, the MP7 is unmatched in its class.

It's also among the faster firing echelon of weapons, and at 952 RPM it shreds through both whatever is in front of it as well as its magazines. With such a high fire rate, extended magazines are practically a must-have on the MP7, and even then it has quite a tendency to blow through magazines and carriers very fast. And even with such a high fire rate, the recoil of the MP7 is very tame. Recoil mitigating attachments aren't truly needed, especially with the cost.

However, a downside to the MP7 that befalls all of the small caliber weapons is the inadequate penetration through surfaces. The MP7 isn't able to penetrate through even the thinnest of walls, whereas even the smallest rifle calibers can pass through most surfaces easily. That's not to say it doesn't pack a punch though. The increased penetration bonus of AP ammo allows the MP7 to practically negate armor.

The MP7 is expensive, with some necessary attachments that increase the cost even more. Normally, a stock MP7 comes loaded with a 20 round magazine. It's not like an extension exists, because for a whopping 4 credits, it can be doubled to 40 round magazines. Adding those on top of the 4 credits to simply equip the MP7 makes it an 8 credit gun. Realistically, its hard to justify such an expensive gun, as sacrificing items such as carriers, grenades, and sidearms can be a little dangerous in modes such as Push and Frontline, but in boosted modes like Domination and certain Co-op modes it can be justified.

In the end, though, the MP7 is a great choice for Breachers. While not as versatile as other picks due to its ammo management and steep price tag, it can absolutely do wonders within CQB, and if its cost can be covered, the performance can surely make up for the price.

Trivia[]

  • The MP7 was first seen in the Reload Mechanics video.
  • The MP7 in-game is based on the A1 model. When an underbarrel foregrip is equipped, the MP7's original foregrip is replaced by a piece of Picatinny rail to attach the new grip, essentially making the weapon an MP7A2.
