The 🌐M99 is a Chinese-manufactured anti-materiel rifle chambered for the 12.7x108mm round. It has found its way into the hands of various rebel groups involved in the Syrian Civil War.

Insurgency: Sandstorm[]

The M99 is an anti-materiel rifle featured in Insurgency: Sandstorm. The weapon is exclusively available to the Insurgent Marksman role.

The M99 functions nearly identically to its Security counterpart, the Barrett M82A1 CQ. The two share many similarities, and they aren't very different.

As an Anti-Material rifle, the M99 chambers a massive 12.7x108mm Anti Materiel round. As the name implies, this round is meant to be able to punch through thick walls and pierce through light vehicles. In Sandstorm, however, the explosive power of the 12.7mm is better utilized against softer targets.

The M99 is able to inflict a one hit kill on enemies at any range. Its rounds ignore any form of armor, and are so powerful they cause dismemberment or decapitation upon striking an enemy at closer ranges, along with some funny ragdoll physics to go along with it.

The round is able to effectively punch through most solid cover in Sandstorm, and it also boasts a high velocity, making long range shots extremely easy to land. Living up to its anti-materiel role, the M99 can destroy a technical in just two shots by shooting the engine block. It is also powerful enough to down an enemy helicopter by shooting its tail rotor a few times.

This insane power comes at a few drawbacks. The M99 is really big, and it won't be very effective in extreme CQB compared to, say, carbines and PDW. It is also extremely heavy, with the rifle alone weighing nearly the same as a Heavy Carrier. Due to this, the ADS time, the draw time, and the reload speed is extremely slowed down. Additionally, the M99's firing sound is also very loud; rapidly firing the weapon can make the player and other nearby players deaf for a few seconds., while also allowing enemies to pick out their location with ease.

Though the rifle's cost is cheap, it doesn't allow for much attachment variety. Underbarrel grips are blocked by the integrated bipod, and muzzle attachments are blocked by an integrated muzzle brake (a purely cosmetic one). With the surplus of credits, the M99 can be decked out with the most expensive scopes, an extended magazine, and a laser pointer without running low on credits.

On the topic of scopes, a wide variety of scopes can be fitted to match the "play style" desired when using the M99. The Red dot sights, like the 1x Red Dot, can be used for dealing with targets at medium ranges and closer, leaning towards a more "aggressive" play style. Magnified Optics, offer cheap middle grounds between the red dots previously mentioned and the medium ranged scopes, such as the 4x M150. To fulfill a true marksman role, long range sniper scopes as well as the toggle magnifiers offer long range precision.

Though the Anti-material rifle isn't the most practical rifle compared to others around its price point, especially the newly added bolt-action rifles of Update 1.16: Operation Crisis, it does offer a fun experience and adds a little bit of variety to the arsenal of Marksmen.
