The WWelrod is a British bolt action, magazine fed, suppressed pistol devised during World War II. Designed for use by irregular forces and resistance groups, the Welrod is an extremely quiet gun, developing only 73 dB when fired. Its optimal range was "up close and personal", within 30 meters, and was airdropped to resistance fighters in Nazi-occupied regions of Europe, and used to assassinate their ranks near silently.

Approximately 2,800 were made, with as many as 14,000 including post-World War II numbers.

Insurgency: Sandstorm[]

The Welrod is a pistol featured in Insurgency: Sandstorm. It was added in the Operation Nightfall update.[1]

It is the 'meme gun' of Insurgency: Sandstorm. Costing a whopping 0 supply credits, the Welrod competes with the Makarov as the free sidearm to complement the insurgent's arsenal (even though it's a massive hindrance in actual firefights).

Operating from a 6 round magazine, functioning as the weapon's grip, and a rudimentary bolt-action system, the Welrod is similar to the bolt action rifles. It is unique in the fact that it can equip both pistol and sniper attachments. It fires a subsonic 9mm cartridge and has an integrated suppressor in the barrel. Because of this, the other muzzles cannot be attached to the gun.

It is notable that both the Quick Draw Grip of the underbarrel section and the Quick Draw Holster of the Stock section can be equipped at the same time, giving the Welrod an insanely quick draw time when paired together. The Greased Bolt can also be integrated to cycle the weapon faster, resulting in a quicker fire rate. Unlike other pistols, the Welrod can slap on all of the 1x holographic sights and even the 1.5x PKA-S sight. The actual pistol sights, however, should be avoided as they have a bug in which the gun is raised too high, resulting in one not being able to see anything in front of them, at all.

As if NWI thought the Welrod was weak with stock ammuntion, they decided to also give it the option to chamber AP rounds and AP tracer rounds, giving the Welrod a better chance of penetrating armors and light walls.

It is a gun that should be run as a primary instead of supporting one, as relying on the Welrod to clutch a gunfight is far from ideal. When running the Welrod, it's fun to run around with, flanking the enemy, and silently taking them out with a gun quieter than some airsoft BB guns. If that doesn't work, one must not forget the key implementation of weapon bashing Security soldiers with the gun, requiring absolutely no ammo whatsoever and also silently taking them out.

One will have a hard time mastering the weapon and figuring out all of its features and deficiencies. But once mastered, the Welrod is a fun weapon that can be a silent but deadly force to be reckoned with.
