An extended magazine is a generic term used in video games that refers to a larger magazine than supplied by default when using any weapon that has the attachment available.
Insurgency[]
The extended magazine is available for various weapons, currently the Makarov (not yet pictured), M1911, and M45A1 pistols, the M1 Carbine, and the FAL and L1A1 SLR battle rifles.
The attachment is very straight forward, it increases the size of a weapon's magazine when equipped. The Makarov, M1911, and M45A1 all get an increase from 7 rounds to 15 rounds (approximately a 115% increase) (8 to 15 in the case of the Makarov, so an 87.5% increase), the M1 Carbine gets an increase from 15 to 30 rounds (a 100% increase), and the FAL and L1A1 SLR both gets an increase from 20 to 30 rounds (a 50% increase).
The attachment is probably most useful on the Makarov, and slightly less on the M1911 and M45A1 because of their very low base magazine size and lower damage and range compared to the M1, FAL, and L1A1. The attachment can also work well on the FAL for means of longer periods of suppressing fire if no one on the Insurgent team is using an RPK. Though the FAL is meant to be more of a precision weapon like the M1 and L1A1 instead of a support weapon, the M1 and L1A1 work mostly the same with or without the attachment due to both being semi-automatic only, and careful and considerate trigger finger control can mean a player would not have to reload for a good while. In addition, the game's reload system means it's typically best reload after only a few shots or when the weapon is empty. (Depending on the weapon's magazine size.)

Trivia[]
- While 30-round magazines were never issued to users of the M1 Carbine, they were issued to users of the M2 Carbine, a select-fire conversion of the M1 Carbine. As the technical differences between an M1 and M2 Carbine are relatively minor, the magazines are interchangeable.
- The FAL and L1A1 use the same magazine model and texture, and the M1911 and M45A1 use the same model, but the texture for the M45's magazine is slightly darker.
